Installation

  1. Using a Zip decompression utility, extract the contents of mojopbanner*.zip to a new directory on your personal computer. Click here for a complete list of included files in the package.

  2. Open all the files that have extension .cgi located inside the temporary directory and make sure that the first line points to the correct path to your Perl interpreter. On most web servers the default setting will work perfectly. If you don't know where your perl interpreter is located, please ask your system administrators.

  3. Open your favorite FTP program or use your web based file manager (if you do not have an FTP client), create A) a temporary installation folder and B) the folder where you finally want to run mojopoll from in your cgi-bin directory or any other directory that allows you to run CGI scripts on your webserver.
Then upload .cgi and .sql files into the temporary folder using ASCII mode, upload all *.dat and *.htf files in BINARY transfer mode.
(Note: If you receive errors running install.cgi, you most certainly did not use correct upload modes. Please make sure you upload all *.cgi, *.log and *.sql files in ASCII mode, and all *.dat and *.htf files in BINARY mode!)

  4. Change the permissions on all the files that you just uploaded that end with ".cgi" to 755 (Read & Execute to all, Write to Owner), or 711 on some servers. In most FTP programs, you can change the permissions on the files by right clicking on the files. You should then choose the option CHMOD or Change Permissions. Windows users should skip this step.

  5. Open your favorite web browser and run the install.cgi by typing in the URL to the file on your web server in the location bar. Do not close your FTP program yet - you may need to create some folders or change some file permissions as the program runs. Follow the directions given.

The first screen is the introduction screen, read the info provided and click "next".

The second screen is the server settings screen.

The first setting is script extension, on Unix servers, use 'cgi' or 'pl' on Windows server use 'pl' if you have problems with cgi.

The next settings are pre-entered for you on most servers. Please double check each path and make sure it points to the correct location on your server.

The scripts directory is the full server path to the final folder where you want to run MojoBanner from (not the temporary folder we created above, make sure this final folder is already existing.)
The script URL is the corresponding URL to the final path.

The next path and URL is for the folder you want to store upload images in, we highly recommend somewhere out of the cgi-bin folder, as most of cgi-bins have image restrictions. If you have placed images into your cgi-bin and they do not show up.. voila, this is the explanation.

The next are your MySQL settings, in most cases the MySQL datbase is located on the same server where your website resides on, in this case the hostname is "localhost", in some cases MySQL database is located on another server, enter your MySQL server host here, you will get this info from your webhost or server admin.
Then enter your mysql details; database name, username and password and submit, if you receive an error now, your mysql access details are most likely incorrect.
Check with your webhost or server admin for correct MySQL access details.

(Note: On Windows server, make sure its the correct server paths, starting with c:\\..\...

After you have filled in all fields, click next to proceed with installation.

If you get errors, then probably you have something wrong in your way. Read the on screen errors and try again. If you're still not able to get past, please send us an email.

The next screen confirms your entries and you can click next to finalise the installation.

If you have successfully made it past this step, congratulations, you have installed MojoBanner successfully.

On the final screen, you will get URLs and info to access the admin panel and information to get you started from there.

  6. The admin URL is admin.cgi, make sure you access it correctly from your browser. If accessed correctly, you will be presented with a username and password login screen.
The default username is : admin, leave the default password field blank.
Please change the password ASAP so no one can tamper your program, and make sure you delete the install.cgi right away (after you have kept a copy, of course).

  7. Delete the install.cgi immediately after sucessfully installed the program.
